Arlington National Cemetery is filling up

Unless changes are made, burial sites run out in about 25 years

Even after completion of an ongoing 27-acre expansion, it still won't be long before there is no more room to bury military veterans at Arlington National Cemetary.

Gerardo Avila, who tracks such issues for the American Legion, says there are "approximately 80,000 slots available -- this is combination of in-ground and above ground. If nothing is done to either change eligibility criteria or maybe acquire new land — where Arlington is at, there’s not a lot of room to expand — Arlington will reach capacity in about 2043.  So about 25 years from now, there will be no more room for burial."

Listen to how Gerardo explained the problem:

Cemetery authorities are asking Americans -- veterans and non-veterans -- for their advice on how best to resolve the grave shortage situation.
